Lady Starlight, a performance artist, was introduced to Gaga at this time. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007 following a performance at Lollapalooza Festival 2007. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her time at Famous Music Publishing. This company was later bought and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The company then hired her to write songs in support of Britney Spears, labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album that Gaga released in 2008 "The Fame" received only moderate media coverage. Gaga went on tour in Europe and the US to promote her debut album. It was not until her 2009 smash "Just Dance," that widespread attention was paid to her music. Gaga was suffering with a hip injury that required a labral repair in her right hip. She was at home taking care of it for a few weeks to ensure she could continue the tour. After a show in Toronto caused her to be unable to walk, and with a lot of pain the singer was admitted to a hospital for surgery, and the tour was canceled.
